Tent Rocks (Kasha-Katuwe)

We just recently took our Boy Scouts to Tent Rocks for the first time. It was gorgeous! We are definitely going back. It wasn't just unique and beautiful, but a lot of fun, too.  We had a great time climbing through the slot canyon and going up the relatively easy trail to the highest point (only 600ft in elevation gain, 2-3 miles roundtrip).

It's only about a 45-minute drive from Albuquerque, and is very easy to get to.  As Tent Rocks is a day-use only facility, you can either use it just for a great day-hike, or you can camp in the very nearby Cochiti Lake campground, then drive the few miles the next day to Tent Rocks to really make it a great campout. We went in February, and although it started out very cool, it was in the 50s-60s before we were done. I imagine it gets very hot in the summer. Make sure to bring your own water. They have vault toilets, but no water.
